The Production Supervisor job in Mississippi is responsible for supervising the production of a wood pellet facility. Will manage a crew of 8-12 operators on a rotating 12 hour shift pattern as their primary duty. Do not apply if no sawmill production supervision experience. The individual will be required to perform maintenance activities on equipment, administrative functions to support the site operations and provide supervision to operations personnel.  


  • Will manage a crew of 8-12 operators on a rotating 12 hour shift pattern as their primary duty

  • Create a Safety culture that believes that all incidents and occupational illnesses can be prevented

  • Support and implement the Company’s Safety culture and Company’s Biomass policies

  • Mandatory to learn and thoroughly understand the System Safety Rules and appropriate Safety documents

  • Manage the operations and manufacturing process of producing, handling and storing biomass at the facility

  • Continuously encourage, seek, identify, and implement the means and methods to improve plant productivity and efficiency without compromising product quality, safety or environmental

  • Insure that the biomass is produced in compliance with the manufacturing and quality specifications

  • Communicate and support the philosophy of the Continuous Improvement Process

  • Must oversee and carry out the supervision of maintenance activities as a Senior Authorized Person on pumps, valves, fans, piping systems, compressors, conveying systems, etc. that are within the System Responsible and accountable for the plant and equipment that fall within the System problems can be solved safely, logically and confidently

  • Must be able to identify and assess all foreseeable risks and implement control measures to an acceptable level to perform a task

  • Will be trained and required to be a 1st Responder for the crew you oversee

  • Implement housekeeping standards to minimize hazards and to eliminate OSHA recordable and lost time injuries

  • Develop training manuals and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).

  • Schedule and maintain training records for all employees on their respected crew.

  • Communicate to all employees on their respected crews the Company’s expectations, business goals and organizational issues.

  • Oversee the completion of operator logs and records where necessary to record plant inspections, adjustments and operating parameters on a daily basis.

  • Will provide recommendations to hire, fire or make other suggestions as to the employment status of others that are given particular weight.

  • Participate in the interview process for operator roles.

  • Review each crew member’s performance and provide feedback

  • Recommend promotions and/or pay increases based off of performance.

  • Respond to all crew member complaints and direct to the appropriate Manager and/or Human Resources Manager.

  • Follow the progressive discipline process for employees, as well as recommend the appropriate discipline based on the incident.

  • Will be regularly put in situations to make the best judgment on behalf of the business.

  • Will ensure housekeeping is maintained to Company’s Biomass standards.

  • Must have the ability to work effectively within a self-directed team framework.

  • Demonstrates interpersonal skills that enhance the team approach to work and problem solving.

  • Must work flexible hours including unscheduled overtime, weekends and holidays in a noisy industrial environment.

  • Possesses the ability to perform repetitive & physically demanding tasks for extended periods (lifting, walking, working at heights, climbing, pushing, twisting, stooping)

  • Covers other positions as necessary to meet the needs of the business.

  • Be a Senior Authorized Person and apply the company’s System Safety Rules (LOTO) to enable themselves and others to perform work on mechanical and electrical equipment. 

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required  

  • High school diploma, GED certification or equivalent required; 2 year vocational/technical degree preferred;

  • 10+ years operations or related with previous management experience required;

  • Candidate must possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; knowledge of specific production process a plus.

  • Minimum of 2 years industrial experience;

  • Demonstrated electrical and/or mechanical aptitude.

  • Be able to adapt to working within a team with minimal supervision.

  • Wood products supervision a real plus.

  • The individual will provide leadership for the Operations Team, as well as being expected to contribute at both a strategic and facility level in order to identify priorities and recommend solutions to support the business.

  • Use written (verbal visual) sources of information, e.g. read reports, procedural documentation, reference materials

  • Perform detailed work requiring visual activity, e.g. repair electronic equipment

  • Uses non-verbal auditory sources of information, e.g. alarms

  • Use oral communication to perform work, e.g. answer telephone, receive visitors

  • Digital dexterity, e.g. using computer keyboard
